SportLine® Pedometer
Step 1
The first step in this project is to open the Pedometer. For the
SportLine® Pedometer there are 3 small Philips head screws on the
back of the case. Before you remove them open the battery holder and
remove the small watch type battery. Remove the 2 small screws and
place them in a container so you don't loose them during the
modification. Figure 1 shows this removal.

Step 2
The next step is to locate the solder contact points and solder the
wires to them. In this example we used small 30 gauge wire wrap wire
we purchased from Radio Shack, but any small gauge wire can be used.
Solder a black (ground/common) wire to the spring shown in Figure 2.
Next solder a white wire to the counter hammer shown in figure 2.
Lastly tape the counter hammer in the up position so that it's not
making contact with the spring. Electrical tape works best for this.
The last step is to solder the white wire to the white wire of your
flash cable, and solder the black wire to the black wire of your
flash cable.

Step 3
The last step is to put the pedometer back together by putting the
case back on, replacing the screws, and installing the battery. Congratulations,
you are done! All you need to do is connect your flash cable to the
external light port of your PixContorller board. Every time you
trigger the camera the counter will record a count. Note: This only
works on PixController PIC chips that support the external light
feature, and you must place a piece of electrical tape over the
Day/Night sensor so that your external light port is active all the
time.
